The Tall Tails
A band now calling the gold coast home, started when singer songwriter zachary miller showed guitarist darren waters a few demos he'd written on his mac garage band app. Being a two piece and playing there first show at a open mic night on the central coast town lake munmorah the boys got there first taste of what they knew would one day be a full band..
The boys recruited some close friends as a backline and started to get some shows around the central coast, newcastle and sydney at whatever venues would host them. Having realised a change was in need to get things moving the boys came north so that ryan, zachs brother and longtime drummer could join and with this change came the addition of ross dickie former bassist of sydney band blue bottle kiss to round out the sound.
Since solidifying the group they've played along side brisbane bands like HUNZ and skinny jean and supported artist from other areas like crow, jamie hutchings, sarah humphreys and ex hungry ghosts guitarist j.p shillo.
After a small tour down the east coast with longtime friend mark moldre the band decided it was time to gather some songs they had from there bag of tricks and put them to disc which has resulted in a seven track "extended" e.p. entitled
The Lucky Wonders
“Top 3 Gigs and Top 10 Albums of 2010” Rhythms Magazine Writers Poll
"Their energy and essence comes through in quality songwriting and poignant, emotional delivery.” Rusty Thorpe – Bluesfest
“Really impressed. They killed it. The Lucky Wonders really know what they’re doing” Dan Condon – Time Off
Byron Bay based alt pop four piece The Lucky Wonders have made a huge entrance onto the Australian music scene in the short time since they formed. Songwriters Emma Royle and WAMI Award winner Jessie Vintila first came together to create live music for puppet show in the 2009 Adelaide Fringe Festival, and after 11 shows in 8 days The Lucky Wonders were born. After recording their acclaimed debut album Thirteen O’Clock and expanding to a four piece band later that year, The Lucky Wonders have continued to build momentum. They recently placed in the semifinals of the International Song Contest with their gorgeous last single Anyway and opened for Pete Murray.
When The Lucky Wonders independently released Thirteen O’Clock in March 2010 and embarked on a mammoth forty date national tour, the praise began to roll in. So too did the airplay, with rotation on Radio National, regional ABCs, community, country and commercial radio. ABC North Coast featured The Lucky Wonders as Artist of the Week. Single Happy Pill received Triple J airplay and hit No. 1 on Unearthed Roots staying in the Top 25 for an impressive seven weeks.
This special night marks the release of their new single I’ll Be Fine, a wistful but high energy airport love-longing song, conjuring a mood of Angus and Julia Stone after a few strong coffees.
Laneway
Paul Hannan and Louise O’Reilly met and bonded over an eclectic crossing of folk & country traditions in 2007. Hannan had been the front man of numerous prominent Brisbane bands; O’Reilly revealed a self-taught guitar and voice that she’d secretly wrought together during an extended stay in Cape York. As Laneway, the pair’s enviable and relaxed attention to old and new combines a love of harmony, a touch of psychedelia and a pop sensibility.
