October 2010 will mark the beginning of a new chapter for Australian troubadour Lior with the release of his third studio album – ‘Tumbling into the Dawn’, on 1st October through Inertia. The album was written and recorded in numerous locations between his home town of Sydney and his current home address of Melbourne, and cemented his long time collaboration with producer Francois Tetaz. To celebrate the release, Lior will head out on a lengthy national tour this October!
Traversing broader territory and showcasing Lior’s fertile musical palate, ‘Tumbling into the Dawn’ is an intricate and breath-taking affair. The album is a return to the art of writing a great song based around a simple hook, a beautiful melody and of course, Lior’s trade mark voice. Combined with the bittersweet lyrical explorations of themes such as the underlying duality of existence (“Shadow Man”) as well as the vulnerabilities and strength of the human spirit (“I Thought I Could Sing On My Own”), the album represents a wide and intense journey and makes this an album all music lovers should be drawn too.
Lior explains the album title track ‘Tumbling into the Dawn’: “When I was a kid growing up in Sydney, there was a famous incident of someone who attempted suicide at The Gap, yet survived due to the blistering winds blowing him out to sea. It struck me as an incredible twist of events where seconds after the decision had been made to end his life, he found himself in the water fighting to survive. It encapsulated a defining moment of finality and renewal.”
Lior burst on to the Australian music scene in 2005 with his stunning debut album, ‘Autumn Flow’. Recorded and released entirely independently, and spearheaded by “This Old Love” and subsequent singles “Daniel” and “Autumn Flow”, the album became one of the most successful independent debuts in Australian history with sales surpassing Platinum. A swag of accolades followed, amongst them three ARIA nominations (including Best Male Artist), as well as Triple J’s prestigious ‘J Award’ nomination for Album of the Year.
Lior’s sophomore album “Corner of an Endless Road”, released in 2008 followed on where “Autumn Flow” left and was a huge success, debuting at #2 on the Australian Albums chart and topping the Independent charts for several weeks.
Most artists set out with an ambition to build a career based on musical credibility and integrity whilst maintaining an independence and individuality in their craft. Lior is certainly part of that rare breed that has achieved this whilst garnering a great degree of success and critical acclaim.
